Ryan and I decided to travel to Puerto Rico for our honeymoon! I’ll be sharing more about what we did and where we stayed later on, but wanted to share what I wore and what I would recommend bringing to Puerto Rico. I’ll be sharing my top packing tips throughout the post and even more at the end so keep reading to hear those!
Shoes
Shoes can make a huge difference when it comes to packing. They can be one of the bulkier items to pack, so in the airport I usually like to wear the pair that will take up the most amount of space. I try to limit my shoes to 3 pairs for weeklong trips and it almost always works out. This time, I brought a pair of plastic flip flops for the pool/beach, one pair of my nicer Jack Rogers sandals, and my sneakers.
I always get cold on planes and in airports so my sneakers were perfect since they covered my feet. They are the bulkiest item so I was able to save space in my suitcase by wearing them as well. I knew I needed sneakers for zip lining, which ended up being the only activity I wore them for while we were there but it was good they worked for the airport too.
The pair of flip flops I brought for the pool I found at Nordstrom rack for $10. I ended up wearing this pair the most, and wore them to breakfast and lunch most days as well.
I wanted a nicer sandal to go with the dresses I packed, so I brought a pair of my Jack Rogers sandals. I definitely got use out of these too.
Swimwear
I packed 4 swimsuits which I felt like was enough. I wore them all, and some multiple times. I packed two white bathing suits which I wish I had thought more about because they did get a bit dirty especially on the beach. I also packed two cover-ups, which I wore every time we went to the pool. I also brought my pool bag which is a necessity in my book.
dresses
I tried to pack a variety of dress options. I ended up bringing one casual flowy dress, one maxi dress, and two Lilly Pulitzer shift dresses. I wore them all except one of the shift dresses. I probably would have packed another casual dress instead of the extra shift. If you have a casual maxi dress I would probably say that is the perfect option because it did get very windy several days.
Casual Outfits
As far as casual outfits go, I brought two pairs of jean shorts, two t shirts, and one nicer blouse. I liked having this variety because I could wear the pool flip flops with the more casual outfits and the nicer sandals with the nicer blouse.
Athletic clothes
I packed two pairs of running shorts and two tank tops and wore both outfits. I also wore leggings in the airport and ended up using them for zip lining too. I would definitely recommend wearing sneakers, leggings or cropped leggings, and a t shirt for zip lining in the summer. If I had worn shorts, the ropes probably would have irritated my skin.
Accessories etc
I didn’t bring that many accessories with me: one necklace, a pair of stud earrings, and two pairs of statement earrings. Although I did wear them both, I probably would have been fine with just one pair of the statement earrings! I packed my curling wand and revlon blow dry brush but wish I had just packed my Dyson because I really missed it on the trip. I was too nervous about losing it but I would definitely bring it next time!
things I brought and did not use
I packed my Lululemon belt bag thinking I would take it on our zip lining tour and kayaking trip. But I ended up leaving all my stuff in the vans because I didn’t want anything to get lost or ruined! I packed my rain jacket but don’t think I wore it since it never rained for a long period of time. Aside from the extra shift dress I think that was it!
My top packing tips
- Make a list of the activities you will be doing and plan out each outfit. I knew what I would be wearing on both airplane rides, set out some dresses for our nice dinners, and packed multiple swimsuits since I knew we would be going to the pool a lot.
- Look at the weather – we knew it was going to be HOT in Puerto Rico so we packed accordingly. And I knew the airports would be cold so I made sure to bring jackets/sweatshirts for both flights.
- Stick to darker colors – I packed two white swimsuits which I kind of regret because they did get a little dirty. I also brought a pair of light pink Lululemon shorts but didn’t wear them outside the room because I was worried about getting those dirty too.
- Try everything on ahead of time. I did not know one of my bikini tops was very tight, and if I had tried it on while I was packing I would have picked something comfier.
- If there is something you use everyday, bring it with you! I really regret not bringing my Dyson air wrap. I use it almost every day, but was so worried about losing it since it’s so expensive. So instead I packed my Revlon blow dry brush which is a lot more damaging to my hair than the Dyson is. It also takes longer and I had to wait until my hair was almost dry before I could use it. I also packed my T3 curling wand which I used several times. Together they took up a good amount of space, especially the Revlon brush. Next time I would just bring the Dyson with me and take the risk! It would have saved me so much time getting ready as well as space in my suitcase.
- If you want to save space, consider what the hotel or place you’re staying at may have. Our resort offered body wash, soap, shampoo etc but I still like to pack my own products.
For beauty products, if you’re traveling with other girls, assign different items for everyone to bring. Like one person brings a straightener, another one brings the curling wand etc. This could also work for clothes or accessories if you want to share!
