newborn necessities

Tatum is 1 month old! There are so many baby product that have saved our lives I cannot wait to share them. Of course every baby is different, but these are the things she has loved so far and what has helped our family the most!

feeding

  • Bottle sterilizer – I am sure any brand would do but we use the Baby Breeza. Before I was boiling water in a large pot and it was heavy and just a pain to do plus not the safest with a baby.
  • Nuk bottles – we bought a few bottle from different brands since we weren’t sure what Tatum would like. She seems to like the Nuk bottles the best and they are simple and easy to clean – some other brands have so many pieces but the Nuk ones don’t.

sleep

  • Mini crib – I wanted to use a min crib instead of a bassinet because she won’t outgrow it as fast. I wasn’t sure how long we would keep her in our room for. It is recommended to roomshare for at least 6-12 months because it is safer so I wanted to have the option for her to sleep in our room a year from now. However it does take up a good bit of space but that’s because our room is so small and we have a lot of other big pieces of furniture in it.
  • Crib – literally any crib will do – we just got one from Target for under $200. She sleeps the best in her crib in her room and takes naps there everyday.
  • Swaddle blankets – Tatum sleeps so much better when she is swaddled. We have a mix of different types of swaddle blankets – I would recommend any that are stretchy or thicker to keep baby warm!
  • Newton mattress and mini crib mattress – from my research this mattress seemed the safest and most breathable. I bought one for the mini crib and one for her crib in her room. I also bought her crib sheets from there.
  • Hatch sound machine – we have one of these in our bedroom and in the nursery. Such a must have! They work as a sound machine and night light that you can control from the app. It has a ton of customization options too.

clothing

  • Fleece sleepers – we discovered Tatum loves the fleece sleepers the most because of how thick and warm the fabric is. However they are actually difficult to find especially now that Spring is nearing.
  • The North Face puffer coat – Tatum LOVES this bunting coat. She wears it on a lot of our walks and always falls asleep.
  • A warm hat – necessary for the winter even with the bunting coat

diapering

  • Wipes – really any wipes will do but I will say the Huggies brand is the worst because they fall apart. We prefer the Honest or Coterie brands because they’re much thicker.
  • Diapers – again, any diapers will work but actually the Huggies brand or Coterie are more absorbent than the Pampers.
  • Hatch changing pad – this is 1000% necessary! OR at least a changing pad that can be wiped down as opposed to a fabric one. We have had so many messes on it and it is super easy to clean. It also is a scale so it makes it easy to check her weight which is important for breastfeeding.

transportation

  • Nuna pipa lite carseat – we both LOVEEE this! It is just over 5 lbs, so it is easy for me to carry, and it easily comes in and out of the base. We can also attach it to our stroller!
  • Uppa Baby Vista 2 stroller with bassinet attachment – this was a purchase we made after Tatum was born and is 100% worth it! We absolutely LOVE her stroller so much and its super cute (we bought the pink one!) Tatum has taken so many naps in the bassinet attachment on our walks which is safe for sleep. If we just had the carseat one she would not be able to go on long walks since she spits up so much. These stroller gadgets are necessary too!
  • Baby carrier – we have the baby bjorn one – I tried putting Tatum in the Solly baby wrap but she does not tolerate it. She always falls asleep in the baby bjorn carrier though! I will put her in it just to get chores done around the house.

medicine

  • Frida mom windi the gasspasser – these are tiny devices that manually help release gas and stool. Tatum gets distressed when she has gas that won’t come out – these are such a game changer. They recommend coconut oil as a lubricant so we keep that in her nursery as well.
  • Mylicon drops – this also helps her with gas.

Other

  • Bouncy – we have the baby bjorn bouncer – Tatum loves this! It is so helpful when I shower in the mornings when she’s awake.
  • Burp clothes – we go through a ton of these everyday since Tatum spits up so much!
  • Pacifier – we tried several brands and this is Tatum’s favorite.
  • Haaka baby nail trimmer – this is so easy to use and doesn’t phase Tatum.
  • Pack n play – we keep this in the living room on the first floor. We also have the attachment part for diaper changes – it is nice to have a safe place for her to sleep or just to hang out in when I go into the kitchen etc. We love the Nuna brand!
