Tula Exfoliators: Blackhead Scrub vs Sugar Scrub

You may have heard Tula recently released a brand new exfoliator called the Blackhead Scrub! I don’t know about you but I have been struggling with blackheads for over 10 years so this product instantly because a must-try for me!

This is not the first scrub Tula has released. Since March I have been using their Sugar Scrub, which I became obsessed with soon after.

Today I am sharing the differences and similarities between the two and why I love each one!

I always like to include some general information about Tula. Tula products are cruelty free and made with clean ingredients. They offer both auto-delivery and one-time purchases.

Polished Exfoliating Sugar Scrub

Unfortunately Tula is currently sold out of the sugar scrub (clearly it is one of their most loved products!) but you can enter your email to be the first to hear when it comes back! You can get your hands on it buy purchasing a value pack, which actually saves you $$. The Summer Refresh Kit value pack comes with the sugar scrub, cult classic cleanser, rose glow and get it balm, SPF, and cosmetic bag. You save $50 this way, and that’s not even including my discount code!

Here are some facts/ my opinions on the sugar scrub:

  • $27.20 with my discount code COLLEENCOOK
  • some ingredients include sugar, papaya, pineapple and probiotics
  • smells so good, like a sweet vanilla tropic
  • recommended by Tula for every skin type including sensitive skin
  • deep cleans pores
  • can be used 2-4x per week
  • removes dirt to make skin super soft!

Poreless Deep Exfoliating Blackhead Scrub

When I found out Tula came out with a brand new scrub I had to get my hands on it! Like I said in the intro I have constantly been battling blackheads and acne and am SO glad Tula released this product. I have been trying it out this past week and notice a difference right away in the appearance of blackheads. Plus, it smells amazing!

Info on the Blackhead Scrub:

  • $27.20 with my discount code COLLEENCOOK
  • great for all skin types except sensitive skin
  • ingredients include probiotics, volcanic sand, pink salt, pomegranate, which hazel and raspberry leaf
  • helps minimize the look of pores and specifically targets blackheads
  • can be used 2-3x per week
  • must-have for acne prone skin!

Main Differences Between the Scrubs

  • The packaging: the sugar scrub has a cap you can open the top half of, while you need to remove the entire cap of the blackhead scrub bottle – not a big issue, but is one less step with the sugar scrub
  • The color: the sugar scrub is a pale yellow/white color and more opaque while the blackhead scrub is transparent and has purple tint
  • The texture: the sugar scrub has the texture of wet sugar and the blackhead scrub feels more like gel and has small exfoliating beads
  • The smell: the sugar scrub smells more gentle has has vanilla and tropical scents while the blackhead scrub smells fruity like blackberries
  • The effects: the sugar scrub removes more of my dead skin while the blackhead scrub is better for removing blackheads and feels more hydrating
Top: sugar scrub
Bottom: blackhead scrub

BOTTOM LINE: I like both products for different reasons and both are a must-have for my skincare routine. However if you’re just looking to add one, I would recommend the sugar scrub if you have normal or sensitive skin and the blackhead scrub if you are prone to acne.
