I love organizing and now that I finally have time to, I decided to tackle one of my closets. I have two large ones in my bedroom in the basement. This one is lined with shelves so I use it for storage. I live at home, and like to keep all of my belongings in my bedroom. I use it to store books, important papers, mugs, bags, art supplies, nursing stuff, and holiday decor. When I was in school I was constantly throwing everything in there and nothing really had a place. I used it as the place to put everything else so that the rest of my room would look clean. Not to mention, I had so much stuff! Now I am happy to say I have finally organized it and gotten rid of things and can actually find what I need to! Read further to see before and after photos as well as to learn how I created my new space!
Before
After
You may be wondering, “where did everything go?” I am happy to say I got rid of SO much! It was so nice to say goodbye to those 20 nursing textbooks that probably weigh more than I do, haha. I also love the feeling I get when I get rid of things! It feels like I have gotten rid of so much clutter both physically and mentally. You never know how much you have that you don’t use until you take everything out!
I wanted my new closet to be organized and coherent. I replaced the shoe boxes with nice storage bins I picked up from Tuesday Morning, a local discount store. I have also found them at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Bed Bath, HomeGoods and Walmart. They come in a bunch of colors but I liked the tan ones the best. I purchased 3 large, which are on the top shelf and floor. The ones on the middle shelves are medium and small sized. I put the items I use most often on the lower shelves so they are more easily accessible and the ones I don’t use much on the top shelves. I also arranged my books by color to make them look more organized. My closet is much more open now and I feel like I can actually use it! It is so nice to be able to find things right away when I open the doors.
I hope this inspires you to organize your space!
