I know I am a day late on sharing this but I didn’t want to skip this week’s Capsule Wardrobe post! If you haven’t checked out my previous posts, definitely go read them so this post will make more sense. Click here to read What is a Capsule Wardrobe? and here to read How to Start a Capsule Wardrobe in 3 Easy Steps! I’ll be sharing my must-have items in my Winter Wardrobe!
As much as I love shopping, I’m actually very minimal when it comes to my closet compared to a lot of people, haha. Capsule wardrobes are focused on basics, and this looks different for everyone. One of my top basics would be a pink sweatshirt! Think of the items you wear the most/versatile pieces that can be worn with each other. I have also found, after writing this post, that I have multiple items in each category since I wear them all so much. I’m also super picky, so this makes it easier for me to wear items multiple times in the same week!
clothing
I actually have a lot of white sweaters because I wear them so much in the winter. I wear my more cropped sweaters with jeans and longer sweaters with leggings. All of the ones I have are from Free People!
If you live somewhere where it gets cold during the winter, a heavy long coat is a must have. My black North Face parka has been the best purchase I have ever made.
Black turtlenecks are so versatile. They can be worn with skirts or jeans. Would work well duding the Fall or Winter!
I wear a lot of comfy cardigans during the winter so a white tank top is a necessity for me.
I actually have several pink sweatshirts/pullovers! They’re such a staple in my winter closet. It can be hard to incorporate pink when it’s cold so this is an easy way to add a pop of color. The exact one I am wearing is currently sold out in the pink but comes in a super pretty blue shade I will link here.
This black bodysuit from Free People has been my go-to top to wear going out or to a nice dinner! I pair it with jeans and heels for a more dressed up look or sneakers to make it more casual.
I wear my Spanx leggings ALL. THE. TIME. I have 3 pairs because I wear them so much and 1-2 of them are constantly in the wash! This could also look like any other pair of black leggings you get a lot of use out of.
dark wash jeans
I feel like dark wash jeans are more appropriate for the winter than light wash and match my winter wardrobe more. I tend to wear white, dark pink or black tops with dark wash jeans when it is cold. I have skinny jeans and cropped dark wash I wear on repeat.
Barefoot Dreams cardigans are a splurge but are so worth it it to me because of how soft and comfortable they are. They are more for lounging rather than going out but I included them in my capsule wardrobe since I wear them so much. And loungewear is in now anyway!
shoes and accessories
I’m really not a huge accessories person.. I love my Kendra Scott jewelry and Tory Burch bags but it kind of stops there, especially in winter. I hate hats (I don’t own even one) and I don’t wear scarves, gloves, mittens, really any winter accessories lol.
sneakers
I used to hate the look of fashion sneakers, especially with jeans. When I purchased my first pair last year I underestimated how often I would wear them. I have 3 pairs of fashion sneakers I wear every single week (white sneakers, leopard print sneakers, and golden goose sneakers). Sneakers are such a staple in my winter wardrobe. They are so comfortable, versatile and easy to take on and off. They’re also great for traveling!
I am glad Ugg boots are back in style now, although to be honest I would still wear them regardless if they were popular or not because of how comfy they are! I have a tan pair and a light pink leopard pair. They both match almost everything I own, so I would recommend going with a color that will be versatile to your wardrobe.
I got my black Steve Madden heels a few years ago but only started wearing them a lot this past season. They can be worn with winter dresses, Spanx leggings or dark wash jeans. I wear them the most with my skin jeans and bodysuits.
I purchased my black Tory Burch crossbody bag during the Nordstrom Sale over the summer and have gotten so much use out of it since. It goes with everything!
a look ahead
Next week I will be sharing the places I shop for items for my capsule wardrobe and tips on shopping/adding to your closet. I’ll be sharing a new post every Tuesday this month and then after that I will be sharing my Spring capsule wardrobe!
