Capsule Wardrobe 2022 Pt 1: What is a Capsule Wardrobe?

Have you ever tried to pack for a trip last minute? Like, thrown a bunch of random things into your suitcase hoping you’ll be able to create outfits with what you have? And then… you get to your destination and realize nothing you have matches? Even though I am a planner, I have definitely been guilty of waiting until an hour before I have to leave for the airport to pack for vacation.

Five years ago it would have taken me hours to pack for a week away. This past Fall I was able to pack my clothes for a 5 night trip to Charleston in about 15 minutes! What?!

AND IT'S ALL BECAUSE I CREATED A CAPSULE WARDROBE!

So now you’re probably wondering… What is a capsule wardrobe? Essentially, It is a the concept of intentionally creating a cohesive wardrobe. I’ll be answering that question more in detail and addressing the benefits of having a capsule wardrobe! This post will be Part 1 of my Capsule Wardrobe Series so be sure to check back next Tuesday for Part 2.

What is a capsule wardrobe?

As I mentioned before, a capsule wardrobe is basically a wardrobe with clothes that all compliment each other.

Everyone’s capsule wardrobe looks different and is specific to your individual needs. Your wardrobe could be centered around a specific color scheme, style of clothing, or brand. I would say my wardrobe color scheme is pink and neutrals (black/white/tan) with a little blue and purple mixed in. I also mainly stick to a few brands when shopping which helps keep everything cohesive. For example Free People – a lot of their tops and bottoms go well together!

A capsule wardrobe is typically also centered around basics, like a good pair of jeans, leggings, white t shirt etc. This allows you to constantly be able to re create outfits with what you have in your closet and get use out of all the items that you own. I’ll be sharing more about this in my future posts!

What are the benefits of a capsule wardrobe?

There are so many benefits of having a capsule wardrobe! It can work for many people, whether you are a minimalist or have an entire room full of clothes. Here are a few reasons I think creating a capsule wardrobe has helped me:

  • Makes packing easier
  • Makes getting ready each day quicker
  • Helps save money
  • Is sustainable
  • Helps keep your closet more organized
  • Helps you look more put together
  • Makes shopping easier

I’ll be sharing the rest of my capsule wardrobe series every Tuesday so be sure to check back next Tuesday for the next one!
