I have had my Dyson Air Wrap for over a month now and I am OBSESSED. I feel like I have used it enough times that I can give a pretty thorough review on it. I will be answering all of your questions and offering my best tips on how to get the most out of the Dyson Air Wrap!
Is it worth it??
Okay this is the most popular question I have received! And my biggest concern before purchasing it. Since I got the air wrap a little over a month ago, I have been using it about 4-5 times every week. Even though it is expensive, to me it is worth the investment for several big reasons: it gives so much volume, gives a more natural look, saves time, and does not damage my hair like every other hair tool does. I’m elaborating on this in my answer to my next question!
think of cost per use!
This is something to keep in mind for sure – since I use it so frequently, and I can use all the attachments for different purposes, if I use it 4 times per week for for 5 years that’s less than 50 cents per use.
How does the Air wrap compare to your curling wand or iron?
My Air Wrap has completely taken over my entire hair tool collection. I have not used my curling wand once since I got the Dyson and honestly I am not sure I am every going to again. Like I have no desire to use my T3 because I just love the Air Wrap so much more! The biggest things that differ with the Air Wrap:
- VOLUME: My curling wand can’t give a lot of volume like the Dyson does
- LESS DAMAGE: even though the air wrap still uses heat, and the fact that I use it nearly everyday, it really has been a game changer for the health of my hair. I have far less split ends!
- SOFTER HAIR: I hated that every curling iron and wand would make my hair feel really dry and stiff after a day. The Air Wrap makes my hair so much softer and my hair feels more hydrated too. It does not get that stiff/dry feeling the next day.
- SAVES TIME: It takes me less than 5 minutes to blow dry my hair, I don’t have to use a ton of different hair tools in one session, and I don’t have to hold my hair on a wand for 60 seconds on each strand. the air wrap curls my hair almost immediately!
- LESS TEDIOUS: With a normal wand, which is what I used before the Dyson, I would have to hold each strand for 30-60 seconds and my arm would get tired haha. The Dyson literally does all the work for you so you really don’t have to do much!
do the curls fall more than with a regular curler?
Okay here is the thing with the Air Wrap: It is meant to give loose, voluminous waves, not tight curls like your typical hair curler. When you first curl your hair with the Dyson, your hair will look super curly, huge and kind of wild and crazy. But it does not stay like that – it falls out to give a pretty, more subtle wave with still a lot of volume! Kind of like a blow out. Maybe if you use hair spray the curls will stay longer but I hate hairspray so I never use it.
My hair does not hold curl for a long time no matter what kind of tool I use, but I wold say the Dyson probably will not hold a curl as long as a curling iron will.
Does your hair have to be damp for best results?
In my opinion, yes, it works better on damp hair, especially clean hair right out of the shower. I do think my hair looks the best the first day I do my har with the Dyson but maybe that is because I have clean hair lol. I purchased a small spray bottle off Amazon and use that to dampen my hair when I want to refresh my hair. It still works on dry hair though!
It is sold out - how can I get it?
The Dyson Air Wrap has become so popular that every time it comes back in stock, it sells out immediately. It took me about a month to be able to purchase the Air Wrap once I committed to buying it (but that was also right before Christmas so I think it is being restocked more frequently now). You can sign up for restock emails on the Dyson site here. Keep checking back on the Nordstrom site here. Follow along on my Instagram, I will be sharing whenever it comes back in stock!
When considering where to purchase it from, I would stick to a trusty department store like Nordstrom which is where I purchased mine. They have a great return policy (you can return things after months even opened beauty products) and their customer service is pretty helpful too. I felt confident that if I purchased the Dyson from Nordstrom and decided I did not like it or if it were to break, Nordstrom would be able to reimburse me. Best Buy also has been re stocking the Air Wrap and you can keep checking back on this link here.
Nordstorm Rack sells refurbished Air Wraps for about $100-150 less than retail price. However their return policy is completely different than Nordstrom’s and they do not accept returns on beauty items. So even though I could have saved some money when buying the Air Wrap, I did not feel safe 1. purchasing it refurbished and 2. not knowing that I would be re imbrsued if any damage were to occur or if I did not end up liking it.
Each Dyson Air Wrap is under warranty, you do have to register it on the Dyson site. I don’t know much about the warranty though!
would you recommend the amazon version?
Okay so if you have not heard, Amazon came out with their knock off version like they did after the Revlon blow Dry brush became popular. I have mixed feelings about Amazon hair tools – from what I have heard, the Amazon version of the air wrap gives a similar effect with the way the curls look and the volume it gives. However you cannot purchase separate attachments for the Amazon one like you can with the Dyson. So if you have long hair or if your hair does not hold curl well, you are kind of stuck since you can purchase the longer/thinner barrels. It may still work on your hair but it will be more difficult to use/may not be as effective. I have also heard that the curls fall out faster with the Amazon version, and that there have even been recalls on previous Amazon hair tools so I would just be careful.
What do all the attachments do?
The regular Air Wrap comes with 3 brush attachments, the blow dry attachment, and two different sized barrels. There are two brush attachments that are very similar (the only difference I have seen is that one has beads on the bristles to protect your hair). The one without the beads is probably the only attachment I don’t use much. The third brush attachment is a round brush which I do like. And then of course the barrels for curling! I actually ended up purchasing the thinner, longer barrels from Nordstrom. They are ideal for longer hair or hair that does not hold curl easily. I have mostly just been using the longer 1.2″ barrels. I would say if you have long hair I would highly recommend buying the long barrels. The ones that come with the Dyson are shorter and more difficult to work with. Since I purchased the longer barrels my hair has turned out better and it is easier to use the air wrap.
